Preamble
Labor believes that representation is an important facet of our democracy. ACT Labor has preselected candidates from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds that are reflective of our diverse community. We need to translate these efforts into meaningful outcomes and get culturally and linguistically diverse candidates elected into our Legislative Assembly.

Migrants are often among the most socially disadvantaged groups in our society. As the son of migrants, I have witnessed firsthand the unique challenges we face and how susceptible we are to changes in government policies. Many migrants rely heavily on public services like healthcare, public transport, and education.

A progressive government is essential to ensure that these public services are strong, accessible, and inclusive. By electing culturally and linguistically diverse candidates, we can better address the needs and concerns of Canberra’s migrant communities, creating a fairer and more equitable society for all. It is critical that our Legislative Assembly reflects the diversity of our population and champions policies that ensures people of diverse backgrounds have the opportunities and resources needed to thrive.
General Resolution

Furthering Cultural and Linguistic Diversity in the Legislative Assembly

Calls on ACT Labor to dedicate a week of action in August to advocate for our culturally and linguistically candidates to further the chances of these candidates being elected into the ACT Legislative Assembly.
