The ACT is the only jurisdiction in Australia on track to meet the National Housing Accord targets. This is no accident—it’s the result of consistent Labor policy to build more homes.
We need a government that’s open to building a wider range of housing types—from duplexes and townhouses to standalone homes—and doing so across a variety of locations, from the city centre to the growing edges. Young people and future generations should be able to own their own home.
At the same time, we must focus on delivering more social and affordable housing—homes that are not only accessible, but also high quality, well-insulated, with greenery, parking, and good design.
