Preamble
Despite the rising cost of parking illegally in a Disabled Parking Space, able-bodied people continue to do so.

In Australia, the fine varies greatly, from <$150, to $660, with NSW being the only jurisdiction to add a single Demerit Point, to the offender’s license. Anecdotally, the adding of this Demerit Point has had, a greater affect than, the (approx) $540 fine.
With the limited number of Disabled Parking spaces available, and for the increasing number of disabled drivers needing them, greater penalties are needed, to ensure that only those with disabilities, are able to use them.

General Resolution

Increasing the penalty for parking illegally in a Disabled Parking Space

ACT Labor calls on the ACT Government to increase the penalty for illegally parking in a Disabled Parking Space, from the current $600 to $1,000, and adjust the relevant legislation, so that two (2) Demerit Points are added to the offender's license.
