ACT Labor welcomes the federal reform for a Right to Disconnect, and calls on the ACT Government to ensure with unions and employers the swift and full implementation of this condition across ACT workplaces, including in the ACT PS, and calls on the ACT Government to advocate to the federal Government to ensure implementation in the APS.
This conference recognises that there are critical roles undertaken by ACT Public Servants that at times requires them to be on call, or available after hours. While respecting the employees right to refuse under the National Employment Standards, this requirement to be available must be recompensed fairly utilising the existing, or potential new entitlements in future Agreements, such overtime, flex, TOIL or allowances such as Close call or Agency Representative etc.
Access to suitable flexibility arrangements is a crucial matter for gender equity in the workforce across sectors, and for the career progression of women to higher-paying and more senior roles.
